Marlon, May 8. C Pittman of Spruce Pine said he suffered only scratches and a shaking up after his plane crashed into a top grove of pines while attempting to land at the local airport. The plane was demolished.

Thos brother of a local woman, a 52 year old farmer from Kings Mountain, drowned Tuesday afternoon when he fell into a creek near the South Carolina line in York county while at work. The York county coroner found no foul play. The funeral is set for Thursday at 2:00 PM at the York road home with interment at Mountain Rest cemetery. Survived by widow and nine siblings.
Blalock Brothers announce the opening of their new firm on the Grover Highway below the underpass, offering a full line of groceries and produce with gasoline and oils carried. Charlie Blalock oversees Blalock Grocery and Market on Mountain Street, promising better service to Kings Mountain Households and the community.
The local United Daughters of the Confederacy observed Memorial Day on May 10 with a 10 o'clock cemetery service at Mountain Hill cemetery led by Rev. EB W Fox. Flowers were laid on veterans' graves and the group then moved to Central School auditorium for a program by fifth grade pupils under Miss Willie McGirl. Mrs J G Hord presided over distributing Confederate literature to West and East schools.
The operetta The Frog Prince will be staged this evening at 8 P.M. in the Central School auditorium. Jackie Falls will portray the princess and David Neill the prince. Carolyn Carlyle directed the production and the public is invited. admission will be charged.
J B Thomasson is chosen as mayor for two years while town officials discuss bridge and paving projects. W W Rches, superintendent, says 30000 cubic yards of earth will be moved to complete approaches to the Grady Vaya bridge, with expected eight week construction. City council and men on the board are cited in the week’s proceedings.
The council discussed eliminating a dangerous Mount King crossroad with a state high way review and planned an upgrade. They considered hiring more staff temporarily while studies are done and debated a city manager form of government to guide Kings Mountain’s growth, with five new council members attending.
Rev T J Morris The Village Parson opens an open air revival at Phenix Mill Ball Park on Wesserner City Road tonight at 8 07 PM. Public invited. Larson touts sole open air revival from the same site on faith alone. Meetings last forty five minutes chairs and hymn books may be brought.
The Kings Mountain School Band earned the top rating in both marching and music at the Eighth Region Music Festival in Charlotte, the only band from eight states to achieve this. A radio program on WGNC will boost Kings Mountain Friday May 12 from 3 to 4 PM hosted by The Old Philosopher. Directors and boosters praise the band for 100 percent victories and strong community support.
