Home Loan Foreclosures By Bureau Take Over 30,000 Dwellings
Washington June 28. The Home Owners Loan Corporation HOLC marks five years in the mortgage business and the federal government owns nearly 80,000 dwellings, about half acquired through foreclosure in the past year. HOLC loaned over 3 billion to about 1,000,000 homeowners from 1933 to 1936. Foreclosures eased in April with 3,258 begun, 491 less than March and far below late 1936 peaks. About 20,000 borrowers repaid in full, 760,000 are current, 115,000 are in some delinquency giving hope, and 33,000 show doubtful repayment prospects.
