Kiwanis surge through four playoff games in torrid twin bill

Four Kings Mountain Little League games at City Stadium last Friday produced three decisions and a 4-4 deadlock in the nightcap. Kiwanis topped Jaycees 15-10 in game one as Billy Ware and Keith Layton split mound duties, while Burlington beat Kiwanis 9-6 in game two with Burling ton handling most of the work for the losers. Kiwanis then won 3-1 over Park Grace in game three in a pitching duel led by Randy Cash and Boyd Smith, and the finale ended in a 4-4 stalemate after Burlington rallied late. Protests were reported by Commissioner Red Layton in all four games.

June 22 marks the eighth anniversary of the World War II GI Bill. The act, signed June 22, 1944, provided home loan guarantees, free education and training, and unemployment allowances. The GI loan program has five years left, ending for most veterans July 25, 1957. VA data show over 3 million veterans have used GI loans totaling about $18 billion with VA guarantees covering about half.
