The piece alludes to educators, religious aid, and social commentary, mentioning Harry Spenathrit and references to Hitler as an educated fool.
A garbled column mixes social satire on overworked workers and lavish wartime expenditures with a North Carolina legal notice. It references pay, war bonds, and Russia while segueing into a property sale in Cleveland County under a deed of trust, naming Calvin Howell and Margiand Covey and citing related liens and taxes. The mixed text preserves names, places, dates, and the trustee W Paigon Barnes, with the sale dated June 6, 1949.
Charlotte North Carolina hosts the first strictly stock car race with a 75000 purse at the New Charlotte Speedway four miles west of Charlotte off Wilkinson Boulevard. The 190 mile, 200 lap event is open to 1946 and later stock cars with time trials Thursday and Friday and a Saturday inspection.
Early entries show broad American participation with a 150 mile test to compare stock and modified cars. The field limits entries to American made cars with Jeeps excluded while Jeepsters are eligible. Makers named include Mercury Ford Buick Kaiger and Hudson among those entered.
