Navy opens armed medical specialty program for allied fields
Navy medicine and surgery introduces a program allowing doctors and scientists from allied fields to be commissioned as specialists in medical research. Navy personnel use cameras depth sounders and television gear to survey Lake Mead Hoover Dam Nevada silt and sand deposits impacting the world’s largest artificial lake. New York supplied 5046 enlistees to the U S Navy in 1947 followed by California 4068 and Delaware 80.

State Milk Imports Heavy in North Carolina 1947
Ralph H. Scott, June Dairy Month State Chairman, announced that North Carolina’s demand for milk in 1947 required importing 63,880,651 pounds, much of which could have been produced on Tar Heel farms. Last year the state dairy herd produced 1,592,000,000 pounds, yet nearly 64 million pounds had to be imported to meet statewide needs. The June Dairy Month drive promotes increased production and consumption of milk and dairy products. An official sendoff dairy breakfast at State College in Raleigh will begin the campaign, followed by local breakfasts and community demonstrations throughout June.
