Perry Navy Vet Held For Temporary Insanity
Perry a Negro navy veteran and former fleet boxer was booked for temporary insanity by Chief Hugh A. Logan Jr after stopping cars at the Highway 71 bridge. Dr Hendricks diagnosed mental illness and he was released to his parents after failing to gain admission to Salisbury Veterans Hospital. Perry attended Central Methodist and First Baptist churches on three consecutive Sunday nights and at a communion service at First Baptist on July night. He wore a rosary and was described as uncommunicative. Veterans Officer Miller noted his service from Kings Mountain in 1945 to 1949 at Quonset Point. His wife, a white German, lives in New Jersey with their child due soon. Local church officials recounted Perry’s church attendance and the usher’s account of communion.

City Board in special session at City Hall agreed to seek applications for two city natural gas department positions and discussed tentative rates and charges. Welch Receives Year Sentence In Cleveland Case
Welch, charged with an incident involving his 12 year old daughter, was sentenced to 12 months in the state penitentiary by Cleveland Superior Court. Judge George Patton accepted a plea of guilty to an incident with a female. Attorney John Mahoney Jr. of Shelby represented Welch. Welch had been held on $1,000 bond after a preliminary hearing on July 6. George Houston, 30, of Kings Mountain, drew an eight month road sentence after a guilty verdict for assault with intent to cause fatal harm. Houston was bound over May 31 after a preliminary hearing. He had been sentenced in City Recorder’s court July 19 to four months on the roads for an incident with a serious public safety item. The sentences run consecutively. Crowned jurors summoned include Martin Rexist Green, Route 2. Nettle L. Hope, William H. Morgan, J. W. Rayfield, Route 1. Richard J. Self, and R. A. Bookout, Grover. Meter receipts show city parking for the week ending Wednesday totaled $1,584.

Franklin Falls Drowning Victim Rites Held Sunday
Funeral services for William Franklin Falls 16 of 100 Ridge Street Kings Mountain were held Sunday at Central Methodist Church at 3 p.m. Rev Phil Shore presided and interment followed at Mountain Rest cemetery. The youth son of Mr and Mrs Herman Falls drowned in about seven to eight feet of water Friday around 7 40 p m while swimming. Coroner Gris som reported the group said he disappeared under water, was brought to the surface after ~ two minutes and artificial respiration failed. Survived by parents a brother Donald Falls and two sisters Mrs Arnole McCall and Mrs Basil Welcher Pallbearers named.
