Miss Margrette Cashion Crowned Miss Kings Mountain 1947
Miss Margrette Cashion daughter of Mr and Mrs W S Cashion was named Miss Kings Mountain of 1947 at the second annual Junior Chamber of Commerce beauty pageant held last Friday night at the high school auditorium. Second place went to Miss Prances Lindsay with Miss Jenelle Smith third and Miss Virginia Moss fourth. The winner will receive an all expense paid trip for herself and a chaperone to Wilmington to represent North Carolina in the Miss America contest in Atlantic City in September. Miss Lindsay will also receive an expense paid trip to Morehead City for the Coast Star Festival August 28-30. Gifts included Donielle gloves for Cashion and Lindsay, an RCA radio for Smith, and a Parker pen and Cricil set for Moss, from the Kings Mountain Lions. Judges were Julian Waldrop, Bill Bailey, Ben Rudisell, Harrelson Yancey, and George Raine Saisen served as master of ceremonies.

Prince In Army Choir at Camp Schimmelpfennig Dedication
Tack A Prince of Service Co. in the 189th Parachute Infantry Regiment sang with an all-soldiers choir at the dedication of the new post chapel at Camp Schimmelpfennig Sendai Honshu Japan on July 6 1947. The choir was personally complimented by Maj Gen Joseph M Swing division commander.

Funeral services for A J Smith age 11 of Portsmouth Virginia were held Friday at First Baptist Church in Cherryville. Interment followed at Black Cemetery Cherryville. He died after a lingering illness and is survived by his wife five daughters and two sons and by Mrs A P Warlick his sister in law.

Crash claims Mintz cafe operator in Kings Mountain area
Jack O. Mintz aged 41 of Bessemer City died at 9 30 p m Tuesday at Shelby hospital from injuries suffered in a Saturday night automobile crash three miles west of Kings Mountain. Funeral services were held Thursday at Silk Funeral Home with Rev M F Craven officiating. Interment in Pisgah Cemetery. Mintz survived by wife Sallie Hamrick Mintz and two sons Jack Mintz Jr and William James Mintz.

The old Presbyterian church property at Piedmont Avenue and Mountain Street was sold to Kings Mountain Furniture Company for 12150 after a congregational meeting. Sealed bids led the three bids, with the furniture company’s bid highest, while sale confirmation for Mr Parton was not approved and the matter returned to the building committee for final action.

The grand jury hears charges against Thomas Templeton in a case tied to Frank F. Sisk’s Sana T Furniture operation on North Piedmont Avenue. Templeton, once an eighth grade math teacher, is charged with embezzling $1,685.89 for Sisk between December 12, 1946, and May 15, 1947. Templeton resigned from the faculty after years of service and hails from North Wilkesboro.

Funeral services were held at Bethel Methodist church for Mrs. Elizabeth Eaker of Kings Mountain who died in Shelby hospital from injuries after being struck by a car driven by G T Thrift. The inquest in Shelby ruled the accident unavoidable. She was an expectant mother and is survived by her husband Richard and two children Linda and Bonnie, plus her mother Mrs. J C Earwood.
