Kings Mountain businessman Marriott D. Phifer a master sergeant in the Air Force received notice from the 14th Air Force Headquarters that his orders to return to active duty were revoked. A telegram said the orders were revoked due to heavy enlistments and Phifer would not depart for Field, Alabama to undergo examination preparatory to returning to active duty.

Funeral services were held at the home Monday at 11 am for Clarence Lee Early known as Jim, 48, of Kings Mountain. Rev. T. L. Cashville Jr. officiated with burial in Holly Springs church cemetery Rutherford County. He died Saturday from a heart attack at his home 101 South Watterson Street. He worked for Piedmont Distributors Charlotte as a saleman and previously for Kings Mountain Furniture Co and Stercit's. Survivors include his wife Edith Robbins Early, his parents Robert and Mrs. Early of Caroleen, son Jimmy Early, daughter Carolyn Early at Limestone College, two brothers David of Forest City and Chivous of Erwin, and sister Mrs Claude McMhon of Concord.
