Batley of the Kings Mountain police force has resigned effective March 1 after months of service. He will take a two week vacation before departure. no replacement has been secured as city officials prepare for the transition.

Earl Ruth recreation director announced Saturday activity schedule. Grammar school boys from 9:80 to 11:15, high school boys from 1:80 to 3:15, totaling 107 participants in the high school gymnasium last Saturday.

Herndon, owner of Piedmont Rug Mill, says the firm may be forced to suspend operations due to inability to obtain needed looper clips. Machinery could be sold or leased to free the building for another manufacturing use. Production blockage stems from looper clips not available at the OPA ceiling price of seven and one half cents per round. black market prices reportedly as high as 90 cents.

The Kings Mountain city Board voted a 30 minute parking limit on part of Main Street in the downtown business area at February meeting. The 20 minute limit remains on the south side of Mountain Street from the Pigs National Bank corner to the adjoining alley near Dr. J. E. Anthony offices. The board also revoked the beer license of James Wade operator of Blue Moon cafe and issued a cease and desist to Jadie Whisnant operator of a cafe on Cherokes Street.

Fire started from defective heating. janitor lit a morning fire and returned about nine. Firemen fought three hours. furnace stopped. heating fan likely failed. Church will use East School for services until a new building is funded by member drives.

John Wesley Butler, 09, died suddenly Thursday night at 12 o'clock at the home of James Smith in Mountain View. He is survived by brother Horace W Butler and sisters Mrs Eisle Rayfield of King Mountain and Mrs Florence Craig. Funeral services held at Mountain View Baptist Church with Rev Floyd Hollar officiating. Burial was in Gary Grove Cemetery.

Kings Mountain Merchants association members will cast ballots to elect a president and four directors. Nominees include G A Bridges J G Darracott J B Keeter B S Neill Charlie Jock W G Grantham R G Lindsay and Martin Harmon. Ballots mailed Thursday with return deadline March 1. Kings Mountain resident Yates Connor announced this week he rented the Mountain Street building formerly McGinnis Furniture to open a photographic studio. Remodeling is underway to offer portraits commercial photography copying tinting and Kodak finishing. He was honorably discharged December 1 after more than three years in the army where he served as a photography specialist.
Members of the Kings Mountain Junior Chamber of Commerce met at Mountain View Hotel last Friday with 49 members present. Guests included Glee A Bridges Kiwanis president and Holland Dixon Lions president. B N Barnes superintendent of schools announced the appointment of Joe C Hedden as high school band director. Charles P. Weir, Kings Mountain community committeeman, announced this week that a total of $3,741.80 is available to farmers for soil-building practices. Funds may cover lime phosphate, building terraces, pasture improvements, and planting soil-building crops. Farmers should contact Weir immediately.
Dr. C. P. Lewis, a Mountain dentist, has resumed practice in his offices in the First National Bank building after leaving the army. He served four and a half years in the Reserve Corps before the war, including a long tour in the European Theater, and held the rank of colonel at separation.
The Imperial Theatre management outlines upgrades including tightening the seating system and piano improvements. The firm has purchased new sound equipment and expects delivery soon. Recent weeks have seen substantial redecorating of the house as part of the upgrade.
