Kings Mountain School now operates lunch rooms at all three white schools offering hot meals at nominal cost. Food and supplies are donated, labor provided by W P A. Primary aim is to provide hot nourishing food at low cost and for children who cannot pay.

Kings Mountain Public Library hits first year milestone
Kings Mountain Public Library marks its first year in the Best Town in the State. Since opening in February 1937 the collection grew from 605 to 1,692 books, including children’s, youth, and adult titles. A record 242 books were checked out on December 28. Gone With The Wind was the year’s top title with 98 readers. Membership cards total 1,650 with 22014 books read last year. Popular authors for women and men are listed. The library, open 2 to 6 PM weekdays, 2 to 6 on Saturdays, and 7 to 11 PM evenings, is in the Town Hall basement. Librarian Ida May Davis invites visits.

A prenatal and infant clinic for indigent mothers and their babies begins February 24 in Kings Mountain. Miss Beam of Shelby, county Red Cross Nurse, will supervise with the State Board of Health and local doctors. Each fourth Thursday offers physical exams and hygienic instruction for expectant mothers and babies up to one year old lacking supervision.
