They played Liszt Bach Mendelssohn Beethoven Chopin and Grieg from memory with two xylophone pieces and were mobbed for autographs after. The twins have appeared in Washington DC and at the Text Centennial with Jan Garber. Parents Mr and Mrs Will Mauney and teacher Miss Parsons accompanied them. Mrs Mauney received a bouquet from Hickory Music Club at the event.
The Jack and Jill Players present a chapel program titled A Matter of Choice by W J Farma. A one act comedy features Phoebe Brent-Sare Herndon Mrs Brent and others, with roles for Brent and Marcia. Senior Class play Tryouts held. cast not yet selected for a three set comedy.
A supper and evening of fun at Patterson Grove will be held to raise funds for the school. Proceeds support school activities and benevolent efforts. The event promises varied entertainments and community participation.
Checks totaling 941.71 were issued to unemployed and partially employed individuals through Tuesday of this week. Shelby NC Office workers Allen Suttle and H C Goode distributed 154 checks averaging about 6.00 each. First checks went to Walter Bell McGinnis for 8.44. Clerical staff will be at the Town Hall Court Room Tuesdays and Thursdays to receive applications and issue payments.
Colonel Hatcher Webb is back in Shelby to reside after months at Kings Mountain. Local fans traveled to see the final, Hill's aggressive style and steady defense earn the title. Winners from the Carolinas are expected to advance to next summer's national event in Boston. Hill’s headquarters remain at the local fire station, where he has made many friends.
A Grand Lodge of North Carolina lecturer begins a week of talks next Monday in February at the local Masonic Lodge. He will occupy the Lodge room all day and every evening that week, with all local and visiting Masons invited to attend.
Raleigh reports the 1939 auto license scheme will use black plates with yellow numerals, reversing the 1838 colors. Warden H Willson of Central Prison says work starts May 1, with 250 tons of tag steel ordered. Further, 3000 gallons of black paint and 1000 pounds of yellow ink are required.
A. J. Maxwell, NC commissioner of motor vehicles, said the state's highway death toll of 1128 is high, worse than 42 states, and about twice the ten best states' average. He announced patrols on nonmunicipal routes to deter reckless driving and enforce traffic laws without fear or favor.
The Kings Mountain Building and Loan Association stocks holders will meet tonight at 7 80 at the office of the association secretary treasurer J Lackey. The gathering is expected to include several stockholders and officials.
C J Hughes, a Cleveland native, has published Rebuilding A Nation's Business through Meador Publishing Co. of Boston.
