John W. Absher Dies in Florida Funeral Held in Concord Church
Mrs. Spencer's father John W. Absher of Gastonia died in a Homestead Florida hospital Friday. Funeral services were conducted Sunday at 3 p.m. at Concord Methodist Church in Bessemer City by Rev. Ray Swink assisted by Rev. George Riddle and Rev. N. D. Newton. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Absher was a Concord Methodist member.

Amanda Jane Jones Dies at 82 in Rutherfordton
Mrs Amanda Jane Jones 82 died Tuesday at her Rutherfordton home after five weeks illness. Funeral 3 PM Thursday at Union Methodist church near Rutherfordton with Rev Ellis P Green officiating. Buried in church cemetery. She was widow of L C Jones and survived by son John D Jones and five daughters plus 25 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. She attended Union Methodist church.

Red Cross Leaders At Charlotte Meeting
Kings Mountain Red Cross representatives Mrs. Paul Mauney Mrs. Ben H Soforth and Mrs J B Jr attended the Charlotte Regional Coordinating Committee meeting to plan forthcoming blood collections in the region and improve collection methods. The Bloodmobile returns to Kings Mountain on March 14 with a 375 pint quota over three visits 128 pints per visit. Plans Advance For New Lane Of Highway 74
The city board of commissioners in special session approved defraying one third of right of way costs for the new dual lane on Highway 74 to Gastonia. The plan calls for a 133 foot right of way at the city line tapering to 100 feet west, with no cash city outlay funded from state highway funds. A widening of E King street to 34 feet may be pursued if the state accepts city highway credit payments and parking restrictions are adopted.

Eleven Cases Tried In Recorder's Court
Eleven cases were completed in recorder's court Monday according to court records at City Hall. Nine defendants were convicted on public drunkenness charges. Ray Tomlin, charged with assault on a female, had costs taxed and judgment continued for two years. Albert King, Bessemer City Negro, was fined $25 and came after conviction on a driving without an operator's license charge.
