Kings Mountain Bell Exchange Faces Possible Walkout

Former Citizen Slain Wednesday in Greenville Home
A former Kings Mountain man, Robert Thomas Gregg, 24, an overseas World War II veteran, was shot in the back and killed Wednesday morning in Greenville. Police say the shooting occurred in a bedroom after a night of arguing with the woman who said she lived with Gregg for two years and was not divorced from her husband.

McCarter Child To Undergo Heart Operation Thursday
Nine year old Kay McCarter, daughter of Mr and Mrs Kelly McCarter, was slated for a heart repair at Children's Hospital Boston at 8 AM Thursday. The operation would remove a section of the aorta. Kings Mountain citizens had donated over 1100 to help fund the life saving procedure with Dr Robert E Gross to perform it. Red Cross chapter coordinated travel plans as parents prepared to depart for Boston and expressed gratitude to the community.

Funeral rites for Mrs Lizzie Wells Hambright 8 died Sunday morning at her daughter’s home were held Monday at 3 o'clock from First Baptist church with burial in Mountain Rest cemetery. Rev L C Pinnix Rev Ralph Fatar and Rev Yohin W Suttle officiated. She lived in Kings Mountain most of life and Clover for 30 years. Surviving eight children and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Body lay in state prior to service and pallbearers named.

Home B and L of the Home Building and Loan association held an annual meeting at City Hall on January 26. A. H. Patterson, Secretary treasurer, presented a prosper ous 1949 report and re elected directors. The report shows assets up about 90000 with 88 new homes financed 31 purchases and 27 other purposes. Work on a new 50 bed 24 room Kings Mountain hospital began Tuesday. Cross and Construction Company, general contractors, supervise site work with William P. Crosland and Carroll P. Reid directing. Estimated six months to complete. Funding from county state and federal governments. county bonds provided 160000 for this hospital and 240000 for Shelby county hospital improvements. Parking for 25 cars plus spaces for staff and doctors. Walter W Hook and Associates designed the modern building on West King Street beside Blackmer Company and the County Club.

Mrs Hullender native of York county died of a heart attack found dead last Friday morning about 9. She widow of John A Hullender and had lived in the area about 50 years. She was a Presbyterian church member surviving son Jack Hullender and four grandchildren. Her body lay in state at the church for a hour.
