Regular story hour for children through fourth grade will be held at Jacob 8 Mauney Memorial library Friday from 4 to 5 PM with Mrs Hal Morris as teller and Mrs Frank Vasery as hostess. Dr Zeno Wall of Shelby will deliver morning and evening services at First Baptist Church in the pastor's absence.

Captain Oliver T. Hayes of the Third Bomb Group Fifth Air Force earned the Distinguished Flying Cross for outstanding meritorious service in Korea. Hayes is described as the pilot of record on that mission.

Federal and state hospital officials approved Kings Mountain Hospital but opening is pushed from February 12 to March 3 due to bed delays from Cleveland County suppliers. Beds promised by February 24 may not arrive. work continues on installation of equipment, kitchen, operating rooms, and units. A.oo members are hard at work on the forthcoming Jaycee Minstrels of 1951 scheduled for Friday and Saturday evenings February 16 and 17. The all local talent show will feature the Jaycee endmen and a large mixed chorus directed by David D. Saunders. Admission is 40 and 60 cents.
Youth Services at First Wesleyan Methodist observe youth week with nightly events and Sunday worship. Miss Roberta Wylie returns from Africa to show films of her mission work. Rev W D Argo and Mrs Argo guest speakers with music. Kenneth George will preach at evening worship. A Capella choir from a local college to close the week with a sacred concert at 7 PM.
Members of the Kings Mountain Lions Club plan a weekend sale to benefit the blind. Chairman George Houser said brooms and mats are priced like similar goods and of sturdier quality. City divided into districts with Lions teams selling in shifts.
Campaign cash on hand for Number 4 Township March of Dimes totaled 2113.32 as of Thursday morning. Chairman Sam Stallings urged committee heads to finish reporting and file with treasurer 3. C. McKinney before the January 31 close. Shelby County workers have largely completed their duties, with the county aiming to surpass its $8000 quota to aid polio victims.

The Lutheran Mission in Kings Mountain will hold its first services at West School this Sunday with Sunday school at 9 45 a m and preaching at 11. A Lenten service is planned Wednesday at 7 30 p m. Rev Vance Daniel leads the mission organized by former St Matthew's members. The church aims to build a Crescent Hill church quickly and may formalize on Easter Sunday. The Daniels plan to move to Meadowbrook Road next week.
Kings Mountain opens its World Day of Prayer observance Friday February 9 at First Baptist Church at 10 a.m. Mrs. W. L. Pressly announces a program with prayers talks and readings. Featured speakers include Mrs. P. D. Patrick Mrs. Aubrey Mauney Mrs. Paul Mauney and others with Latvian guest Mrs. Baltins. The service is a community event sponsored by local women's groups.
Bridges & Hamrick Kings Mountain hardware firm dissolves effective January 2 1951. New partnership G E Bridges and J C Bridges trading as Bridges Hardware Company assumes debts and obligations and continues business with Gleen Bridges active under his sons management.
Funeral services for Mrs. Mary Ann Peterson 73 of Kings Mountain will be at Hopewell church near Blacksburg South Carolina Sunday at 3 pm. Interment in the church cemetery. She was a Cherokee County S C native and daughter of the late John and Sarah Ann Martin. Survived by her husband Ed Peterson two sons Jasper L and Walter and four daughters Mrs John Sanders Mrs Simon Sanders Mrs Fred Henson and Mrs Marvin Styers all of Kings Mountain a sister Mrs Ora McDaniel of Blacksburg 8 Cy and 21 grandchildren.
Funeral rites for Hugh Taylor Mauney 49 well known Gastonia tailor were held at 11 a m Wednesday at Carothers Funeral Home chapel in Gastonia He died Monday night in a Seneca S C hospital from pneumonia while on a business trip He was a Globe Tailoring representative and had called at Hughes Clothing Store in Kings Mountain Surviving wife two sons a sister a brother and his parents are named He was a Mason and an Elk a former board member of Main Street Methodist church He worked with Globe Tailoring for 12 years and was born in Gastonia
Cleveland County's selective service board orders 235 registrants to report next Thursday for pre Induction medical exams in Charlotte. Men found fit will be eligible for induction after at least 21 days. The group includes men born as recently as October 1930 and 55 men will be sent for final induction on February 19.
Rev A W Lippard will headline the Kings Mountain district Boy Scouts of America annual Scout-Parent banquet and meeting at the Masonic dining hall Tuesday at 7 pm. H C Wilson, district chair, notes Lippard’s five years of service and urges Scouts and parents to attend as Scouting Week and the 41st anniversary year are observed. Tickets are on sale. the event marks Scouting’s nationwide activities from February 6 to 12.
Funeral services for Francis Vane Wells 60 of Kings Mountain were held at Oak View Baptist Church with burial in the church cemetery. He died Tuesday night after a nine day illness in a Gastonia hospital. Surviving are four sons eight daughters a brother and sister eleven grandchildren. He was a native of Cleveland County and longtime farmer later with Neisier Mills Inc.
More than 200 Masons and their wives attended the Fairview Lodge No. 339 annual banquet at the Masonic Dining hall. Dr Wallace E Caldwell Grand Master of North Carolina spoke on Masonry’s benefits to community and individual amid ceremonies led by Arnold W Kincaid and S A Crouse. Mrs Samosaings replied as widows of former members were noted.
