Members of the Kings Mountain Junior Chamber of Commerce will host a club dinner dance at Kings Mountain Country Club on Saturday night with a buffet at seven. New Year’s Dance features Gene Wallace and his orchestra for music, dinner at eight, reservations urged.
Incoming and outgoing directors of the Kings Mountain Kiwanis club will hold a dinner meeting at the Woman's Club Friday at 7 PM. The notice mentions a Wednesday half-holiday suspended during Christmas shopping to better accommodate the buying public.

City firemen worked overtime in December with 18 alarms by Thursday, ten from Saturday to Tuesday. Most fires were grass and woods with no damage. one at Victory Chevrolet paint shop caused slight damage. Two simultaneous alarms occurred Saturday and Sunday at 1 15 p.m. Christmas Day gave a brief rest before more calls on Tuesday.

Funeral services were held Tuesday morning at 11 o clock at Seroug Cannella on Oriental avenue. Rev T L Cashwell and Rev W F Monroe officiated and burial was in Spencer Mountain cemetery near Gastonia. She had been in failing health for years. Mrs Gunnells was a member of High School Baptist church. Her husband Robert Gunnells died 47 years ago. Survivors include two sons O T and Robert J Gunnells of Kings Mountain a brother Sam Stroup of Kings Mountain a half brother A A Jones of Lincolnton a sister Mrs W A Hawkins of Kings Mountain six grandchildren and one great grandchild

Hord 81 who died Sunday afternoon after a two year illness were held Tuesday at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev T L Cashwell Jr officiating burial followed at Mountain Rest Cemetery He was a prominent Kings Mountain grocer for 40 years retiring 12 years ago Survivors include ten children 26 grandchildren and four great grandchildren Active pallbearers were William Miles Hord Jake Hord J W M Baker Dorus Bennett William H Wallace and Lemly Roberts.

The store has been conducting a going out of business sale after purchasing the business from D L Saunders in January. Hughes also runs a men's store and a ladies shop in Union 3 C.
