NYA Sewing Room Active Work For Red Cross and NYA
The NYA sewing group produced patched garments for the Red Cross including two shirts, one dress, seven pairs of pants and three sweaters. Eighteen woolen dresses were made for the Red Cross, eight for children and four for women to be sent to Poland. A community drive provided 37 children with eight overalls and 22 pairs of underwear. Miss Dale taught NYA girls a weekly Bible lesson, and Rev. H C Sprinl spoke on Thanksgiving.

Veteran Southern Conductors Retire From Rails After Decades
Captain O Farrell and Captain Ormand of the Southern Railway retire after about 60 years in service. O Farrell began in 1886 as a mail clerk and rose to passenger conductor on major trains including The Crescent Limited. Ormand, a longtime Kings Mountain conductor, led Nos 37 and 38 on the Crescent and handled trains 30 and 35 before retirement.

Ancient barrel head found in Tar River near Greenville
