Oscar Phobus, serving a first term as Fountain county recorder, is urged for a second term by supporters who praise his honesty impartiality and nonpartisan service. A state accountant reportedly commended his books noting they were the best audited in the state.
Cotton gloves offered at 10 cents a pair or 3 pairs for 25 cents of top quality. Visit the Ideal Grocery as they invite shoppers to come in and look. Also noting the Christian Ladies Aid will meet with Mrs. Fred Madden on Wednesday of next week.
Last Saturday marked Mrs J P Sowers 40th birthday with thirty two relatives and neighbors gathering at her home. After games the party shared an oyster feast and then guests departed. Attendees included Mrs Mary Maris N L McDaniel and family W Rabb and family Mrs S Lindley and daughter Loyd Madden and family E L Cecil and family and Glen Sims and family.
Harvey and Clawson were married in At tica on Monday at 10 o'clock by Justice of Peace McConehay. The bride, daughter of Mrs. Lenora Clawson of Stone Bluff, is described as a respected young lady. The groom, son of Mr. and Mrs Harland Harvey, works at Grismore barber shop.
The Young Married People's class of the M. E. church performed The Deacon's Second Wife in Marshall last Saturday night, drawing a large crowd and clearing $31.00. This brings their total from the play to over $100.00.
Oliver Perry Lewis known as Judge Lewis, Covington native and prominent Fountain County attorney, died suddenly after dinner in an upstairs room of the old Prestcott building near the public square. Aged and respected, he served as a state representative and was famed for his public speaking and political leadership. His death followed a illness after Wednesday evening visit to Wink Crane. The remains were taken to Geo W Kerr & Son for burial preparations.
Last night Frank Riggin riding with Jim McKnight crashed after a wagon with an empty straw rack veered toward them near Frank Naves home south of the city. The wagon driver, possibly drunk, forced them against a fence. the auto was badly wrecked but occupants were unhurt. An effort will be made to identify the straw hauler who had been drinking when leaving town. Riggin’s car was among five in the Progressive group passing through Monday.

The Kingman Opera House hosts a one night only comedy drama The Girl and The Tramp on Monday November 2 1914. Geo L Barton wrote the new play to fill the gap left by traditional melodrama and aims to provoke laughs with a story of a once educated man fallen to tramp life who helps thwart villains and reunites with his daughter through Fio the bowery girl.
A house near Howard belonging to William Bugg burned down about 10 am Tuesday. Originating in the kitchen chimney the blaze spread quickly. Pupils from the How ard school helped move belongings as a bucket brigade fought the flames, but the loss could not be saved. The home was insured, yet coverage falls short of the total damage.
Mrs Charles Johnson underwent an operation for a tumor at Methodist hospital in Indianapolis Wednesday morning around 10 o clock. Dr F S Cuthbert had charge, with Dr E D Clark as surgeon. She rallied from ether and was improving slowly. about two gallons of fluid were removed from the tumor.
Five Progressives traveled in five cars Monday across the countryside to bolster the campaign. The group kept a spirited pace despite cool weather, showing strong enthusiasm throughout the trip.
Capt Hiram M Billings a prominent regional figure died at his Veedersburg home after a brief illness He served in Co E 86 Indiana from Warren county and rose from private to captain during the Civil War Later he was sheriff of Williamsport and ran for the legislature at Waynetown He leaves a widow three sons two daughters and a stepson with ties to Williamsport Redlands Cal Toledo and Kelso Washington
The I O O F and Rebeccah lodges announce a district meeting Wednesday November 4 at 2 PM in the lodge room with Grand Lodge officers expected. A public meeting at the opera house follows at 7 30 PM to which all are invited. Officers to attend include W H Nuer G M O Sharp G P and Ella M Clark RR A.
Patrick J. Kelleher spoke on campaign issues from a Democratic viewpoint to a fair sized audience who called the address elegant. Local notices also mention visitors from Oakwood and Crawfordsville, shop updates, and church service time changes.

County Clerk Roy Sanders issued several marriage licenses this week. Couples include Berry M. Yater and Goldie R. Cain of Attica, Rolland C. Harvey of Kingman wed to Letha M. Clawson of Rod Eoy, Edwin Mutt of Wingate to Prosia Holden of Mellott, and Howard A. Kesler to Dora F. Haxton. The Kesler nuptials were conducted by Rev. Strecker of M. E. church. Kesler teaches in Darlington schools. Haxton is the daughter of Mr and Mrs George Haxton of New Town.
A. D. Mann postpones his sale originally scheduled for Friday, November 6, 1914, citing inability to obtain fodder by that date. The new sale date will be announced in these columns later.
The Christian Ladies announce an oyster supper on election night to fund their treasury. Attendees are invited to dine and contribute, aiding the society’s fundraising efforts.
