Sam James of Hillsdale died after a line drive struck him in the temple during a Mound City game in Tangier. He collapsed at home later that evening, with his wife and physician arriving after the funeral was arranged for Tuesday afternoon.

A fatal shooting from a ball caused Sam James of Mound City to die at Tom Gerard’s home Sunday night. he leaves a young wife and child.

Fred and Mrs. Harvey visited Sam Shell and A. H. Bardin. Elmer Lawson of Danville Ill. stayed with A. D. Mann. Roy Lindley Vern Thomas Luther Boyer Ottie Askren headed to Gibson Ill. for corn husking. Will and Edd Ratcliff travel to Sulivan Ind. to visit Willard Ephlin. Albert Lynden Byron Cox and Leora Marshall guests of George Shell.
Mrs Jennie George and her daughter from Longview Illinois have been guests of H B Pucket for the past week visiting local friends and sharing family stories.
Noah M Teegarden the Republican nominee for Prosecuting Attorney in the district is a Fountain County native from Millcreek. A lawyer with seven years practice, he has led Veedersburg and serves as President of the City’s Commercial Club and as an agent for a major Eastern loan firm. He is married with two children, a Christian and active in church work, and would be a conscientious prosecutor if elected.
John Pavey is very ill at present. C L Huffman and family visited Covington Saturday. Albert Moore and family visited Wm Banister's Sunday. Samuel Pavey of Danville has been visiting relatives nearby. Miss Elizabeth Dotson moves to a new home this week. Mrs Gertrude Sowers and Miss Icie Huffman called on Miss Mettie Huffman Thursday. Hon E E Neal Republican candidate for Congress spoke to locals Monday afternoon.
Glen Ewbank was absent early in the week and Ella Cox missed classes due to mumps while preparations for the monthly exam Friday continue. The annual masquerade at the high school drew a large crowd with Homer Farr winning best masked, Miss Alice Hogan receiving the fruit plate, and H. H. Puckett winning for the windiest man.
Indiana's September death rate for children rose 20 percent with schools opening. Diarrheal deaths numbered 351 of 424 child fatalities. Causes cited include water changes, confined classrooms, and decomposed lunches. Overall deaths averaged seven daily from violence, heavily driven by 57 interurban wrecks and 38 steam-road crises. State rate 12.4 versus 11.8 in 1909. total deaths 1,870. City rate 14.7, rural rate 10.8.
