W R C Ladies Entertain Old Soldiers at Tangier Dinner

The Women’s Relief Corps in Tangier hosted a Thanksgiving dinner for eighteen veterans at the old hall. The menu featured roast beef, chicken, ham, pies, fruits, vegetables, coffee, and rolls, with some dishes for the sick and a charitable donation from the soldiers to assist the ladies’ hats. Charley Spencer provided patriotic music, and recitations by Bertha Wilkey, Anna Seely, and Mrs. Chas. Spencer complemented the event. Ministers and locals spoke, a social hour followed, and a final prayer closed the gathering with hopes for a yearly observance.

Young Men Fined for Malicious Destruction of Property

Tuesday morning T M Jackson found three large window panes and a small door glass smashed in the old saloon building where his apples are stored. Cloda Moore and Carl Bowsher were brought before Justice Woody and fined 12.50 each plus 3 50 for new glass, totaling 14 25 per person. The journal notes regret over the incident and hopes for better conduct from Kingman youths. Carl and Jim are named critics.

Suit for Support Filed by Mabel E Norris

Mabel E Norris through attorney T Livengood filed a circuit court suit against her husband Charles P Norris for support. She says they married in January 1907 and he abandoned her about a year ago, offering no support. She asserts Norris owns personal property over 1000 and is able bodied with steady employment, seeking 20 dollars monthly and proper relief. Norris is a prosperous farmer near Yedda, while she lives apart with her parents near Catlin Illinois.

Kidnapped for a Million Five-Act Melodrama at Opera House

The Perrys bring their five act society melodrama Kidnapped for a Million for one night only on Monday December 12 at the opera house. A new fire signal bell weighing over 700 pounds arrived Saturday night and was unloaded Monday. Placed near the town center, it will replace the elevator whistle as the fire alarm and will serve to summon residents during emergencies.

Gladys cares for mumps and Katie is absent due to illness. Cecil and Margaret want a pet mouse. Della Hurley missed Thursday last week. Layton Ewbank began Sophomore year last week. A delegation attended the Watt’s school box supper Monday. Mr Matheny spoke again at morning exercises Tuesday. Mrs Claude McGraw and Miss Bertha Shoaf attended UH Ss visitors Priday afternoon. Freshmen and Sophomores prep for a musical in about three weeks. Grace Wood, teaching near Rosedale, visited Wednesday and is a former graduate. Mrs E. E. Baker of Cincinnati, formerly head of the kindergarten department, visited Wednesday and is now at home with her parents taking care of the mumps.

Fire Scare at J P Redenbauch’s House

A fire scare struck the north town as soot in a chimney ignited leaves in a roof valley around 6 30 PM. FE Barker and a bucket brigade arrived in time to extinguish the blaze with the fire engine and ladder wagon late. A yard long strip on the roof burned but caused no serious damage. Mr Redenhaugh expressed gratitude to the fire company and rescuers.

No Hunting Sign Stirs Local Residents After Thanksgiving

A handwritten notice signed by numerous locals prohibits hunting on land they own or control. The item also lists residents visiting relatives for Thanksgiving, mentions school supplies at J. M.
