The couple obtained a license Monday at the Danville courthouse amid lighthearted jokes from Madden and his father, who learned of the elopement by telephone. Brand New Piano Burned After Church Vote Stirs Town

A piano valued at 300 dollars was moved from John Cory’s northeast of the city to Freedom Church after a tie vote on placing it in the church. It was set on fire at Cory’s home, hay found nearby used as the incendiary, and only the iron parts remained. Bloodhounds failed to locate tracks as the community viewed the wreckage and the church members faced the loss.

James Hutts Undergoes Right Leg Amputation

James Hutts son of J W Hutts living near Yeddo was rushed to Indianapolis last week and his right leg was amputated about six inches above the ankle on Monday. Dr E M Haggend performed the operation and he was reported as recovering as well as could be expected with a home return possible in about four weeks. Hutts is about 25 years old and has many friends hoping for a speedy recovery.

Knights of Pythias of Vangier dedicated an elegant new castle hall last Saturday night. A banquet followed with a large crowd in attendance and several speeches praising the hall as a credit to the community.

Found Dead in Coal Car in Rosedale Yards

Mark Clayton Jr., 66, was found dead last Wednesday in a coal car at the Rosedale switch yards. Authorities say a fall caused a broken neck. he lost consciousness near noon while fuel was being collected. He was a native of England, longtime Rosedale resident, survived by a widow, a son, and two daughters.

Covington and Southwestern Contract Awarded for 54 Mile Line

The Collins Constructing Co of Chicago has been awarded the contract to build and equip the Covington to Crawfordsville rail line in Indiana, a 54 mile stretch.
