Chicken Thief Fells Into Covington Cistern
A Covington man famed for chickens was found in a cistern near Uncle John Slattery's hen house after burglars entered the coop. The soaked man, exhausted from hours in cold water, begged for aid and was helped out as a bag of chickens lay nearby. The incident has become town talk and the chickens were returned to the hen house.

Fourth in Kingman Celebrates Quiet Holiday
Kingman observed a calm Fourth of July with many staying home to rest while autos ferried visitors to the Shades and Dana for celebrations. Some stores closed or half day, crowds gathered on State street for a private fireworks display, and locals hope for a larger celebration next year with a special northbound train and more attractions. Our horse show was a success and a future event is anticipated.

A Good Wheat Yield Report from J E Maris & Son
J E Maris and Son threshed their wheat in the latter part of last week and obtained an excellent yield. They worked 25 acres with an average over 31 bushels per acre and high quality grain. Nine acres sown with Baby seed yielded 33 1 3 bushels per acre. The remainder in Perfection wheat produced about 30 bushels per acre.

The past week brought extreme heat from 100 to 106 degrees daily with no rain for months. Weather records show a peak of 125 degrees at Kingman Hardware Co as a glass thermometer burst, underscoring a severe drought feared to ruin crops, gardens, and fruit unless partial cloudbursts occur soon. Old timers say such conditions are unprecedented in years.

Miss Allie Black Visitation in Indianapolis
Fountain county notes report Miss Allie Black visiting relatives in Indianapolis. Mrs J T Redman has suffered a nervous attack. Virgil Sanders of McCrary's store fell ill with stomach trouble and has been unable for duty since Saturday morning. Indianap lis birth naming law requires a birth name within twenty four hours and the birth report filed within thirty six hours. Mrs J R Hicks of Covington burned on arm shoulder and neck by boiling water on a gasoline range. Dr Hicks summoned home and reports the patient progressing well.

Bubble Route dismantling ends with rails shipped to Ft. Smith
The ill fated Bubble Route project nears history as trolly wire steel and related parts are loaded and shipped to Ft. Smith Arkansas. Ties poles and the first electric car remain in place while the power house stays intact for now. Two superintendents who oversaw the track tearing up left for St. Louis after finishing their portion.
