Andy the Pioneer of Millcreek to Be Feared for Old Settlers

Andy, known to locals as one of Millcreek townships earliest residents, will be missed at the next August Old Settlers event. A former schoolteacher and lawyer, he helped shape the community and has long served as master of ceremonies for the annual celebration shortening his absence from public life.

House Burns Down Near Howard After Chimney Fire

Fred Anglemyer’s farmhouse near Howard was destroyed by a chimney fire while his family visited Otis Ratcliffe for Christmas. Neighbors arrived too late to save the home contents. The farm, the Anglemyer homestead, belongs to Rev. Sherril, and the Anglemyers are staying with Ratcliffe pending a new house.

Destructive Fire in Veedersburg Destroys Bove Building

A Saturday fire in Veedersburg damaged the Bove building opposite the post office. The blaze started in a back room used for a pool hall run by Dave Smith, with a large quantity of groceries and a delivery wagon stored in a Glover Dry Goods Co. room. Loss estimated around $2,000 with minimal insurance. firefighters prevented spread.

Judy Pays $100 Fine After Mail Improprieties

John F. Judy faced a U S commissioner in Lafayette last Saturday and paid a $100 fine for improper uses of the United States mails. He maintained there was no such violation or that he acted unknowingly.

Men Royally Entertained at Needleworkers Christmas Banquet

The Needleworkers Club held its annual Christmas banquet for husbands last Friday night. Mr and Mrs J T Redman of Covington attended. A two course dinner was served with Misses Katie Glascock and Ivaloo Rowlett in charge. Santa and snow cabin decorations graced the dinner, games followed, and Ben Rowett won the points prize. The Rowlett home was festively decorated in red and green with crape holly and cedar. The men appreciated the reception and would attend again.

Waveland quarry venture to boost regional industry

E S Booe banker C L Steinbaugh clothier and James A Copeland retiree from county commission lease a limestone quarry near Waveland. They form a company to develop a large operation with 20 year lease, modern machinery and skilled labor. Limestone to be milled for fertilizer, Purdue tests show 98 percent purity. Mrs A M Ford hosted H D G Club Christmas gathering. Albert Jones and wife left for Crawford Wolcott visit.

Tangier High School Changes Superintendent and Events

Tangier High School announces Miss Mitchell will not return after vacation ending a1.5 years at the helm. Mrs. John Pickhard, formerly Blanche Ellis, will succeed, having led the school in 1909–11. The week includes a state teachers meeting, a Yellowstone description, a domestic science event, and student transfers to Coldwater High School.
