Mr and Mrs Nf R Atcheson visited in Bloomingdale Wednesday. Mr and Mrs Elbert Heath had business in Weecersboro and Covington Wednesday. Mrs fi He Towell and her mother Mrs Commouns returned from Indianapolis Monday. Mrs C H Ratcliff was shopping in Veedersburg Wednesday. Misses Artie and Stella Bryant were shopping in Veedersburg Wednesday. John B Day a hustling farmer near Bloomingdale was in town Monday and renewed his Star subscription.
Mr and Mrs R B Myers hosted a Tuesday night card party with euchre games led by Mark Inlow who won the most games and received a cup and saucer. An ample two course supper followed with homemade candy, a birthday surprise for the 28 year old guest of honor, and a hand painted plate was later given to Mrs Myers by attending ladies.
William Thompson Marshall born April 27 1843 in Orange County Indiana. He moved to Parke County as a boy and served in Company C 116th Indiana during 1863-64. He married Sophronia Braden in 1868 and Carrie Carhoun in 1894, with children and losses noted. He joined Rush Creek Friends Church, moved to Wingate in 1896, died December 5 1907 aged 64 years 7 months 8 days. He leaves two sisters and a daughter, with three deceased children. Funeral at Christian Church led by Rev J C Francis. interment Pleasant Hill Cemetery.
E S Wilkey formerly of this place now of Covington announces candidacy for Joint Senator. He is described as an able, straightforward man deserving Republican support at the coming convention. The note follows a local column in this issue with various community notices and events.
A dozen hard drinkers in Attica create the Anti-Smile Club to abstain from alcohol for one year starting January 1, 1908. Each member puts up ten dollars to a trustee. the $120 pot will be shared on January 1, 1909 by those who remain sober. If unclaimed, funds go to Attica’s deserving poor.
