Best Fair Ever Held by Kingman Agricultural Society

The Kingman Agricultural Society announces the coming fair in early September promising the best ever. Weather is hoped to be pleasant and attendance will exceed prior years. Premiums are larger, a bigger race program is planned, and entries close August 27.

New Bank Established in Wallace With 10000 Capital

Wallace residents formed a bank under state laws with 10000 capital, to be named Farmers Bank offering general banking. Expect readiness in about sixty days as officers are elected and supplies purchased. Mr and Mrs St Alexander visiting relatives in Mulberry this week.

Grand Reunion of Old Settlers at Meharry Grove

Old settlers from Fountain, Montgomery and Tippecanoe counties gathered at Meharry's grove last Thursday for a grand reunion. Hon M D White of Crawfordsville gave the principal address, with remarks by John W Harper of Cincinnati and Prof W A McBeth of Terre Haute. Louis Herfried and Judge Baldwin spoke, the Newtown band played, and a relic display by the committee pleased attendees in a weather fraught but successful day.

No Diplomas for Eighth Grades Board ends eighth grade commencements

The Covington county board of education decided to replace township eighth grade commencement exercises with graduation certificates admitting graduates to privileges previously conferred by diplomas. Mrs. Irwin Pavey died at her Clinton home Thursday. remains moved to Cates and then Beth el church for funeral services led by Rev. A J Marshall. interment in Bethel cemetery. Deep Artesian Well Reaches 2000 Feet In County Field

Covington Friend reports that India Gas and Oil Co drillers reached 2000 feet this week after nine months of work. The crew struck Trenton rock down about 180 feet without oil or gas. The investors earned no payout beyond pride and the distinction of the county’s deepest well, while drillers say they lost money despite receiving 2800 dollars for labor. The water resembles Lodi water and is believed to have medicinal qualities. The boss baths in it and praises its properties.

David Summons Dead at 70 A Well Known Citizen

David Summons of four miles north of Cates died Thursday of last week at age 70 years 10 months and 6 days. He leaves a wife two sons Elmer and Henry and two daughters Mrs Alva Somers and Mrs John Kiger and many friends. A lifelong New Light church member he chose his funeral text and minister. Rev A L Carney of Lebanon conducted services at Centennial Saturday at 11 oclock with burial in the Centennial cemetery.

Indiana State Fair entries close August 28 for a full catalogue

The Indiana State Fair will strictly enforce a closing date of August 28 for all department entries. A complete catalogue of horse and cattle entries will be published, listing exhibitors and animals. The fair opens September 9. Nearby a train wreck near Russell, Iowa injured fifteen aboard. Mr. and Mrs. Clare of north Parke county escaped with only minor bruises.
