Erasmus Parrett, editor and publisher of the Russellville Searchlight, reports his office damaged by fire Monday night last week. Several pounds of type stock and fixtures were destroyed. He suspects arson with gasoline used to start the blaze and notes the building was scorched with broken windows. He thanks readers for aid and apologizes for lack of local news.
Mrs John Stoup visited Veedersburg on Friday. County Clerk Leroy Sanders and his wife were in town over Sunday to visit relatives. Also note Bog Mc Alister’s large advertisement on the back page of this issue.
Obituary notes Uncle Tom Ratcliff born January 22 1819 Highland County Ohio died April 4 1911 at age 92. He cast 71 consecutive votes since 1840 and lived in Mill Creek Township Fountain County Indiana. Survived by wife Anna Bradford second wife Elizabeth Little nine children twenty five grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren. Funeral held at his residence conducted by Rev. Levi Woody with burial at Harveysburg cemetery.
The 1911 Tangier Indiana event at Friends Church features invocation, minister readings, class discussions with Samuel Vanscoyce, Grant Goddard, Minnie B. Ellis, and Dessie Marshall. Sessions include home class department uses and abuses, ship of church debate, officer elections, and closing song led by E. F. Jackson president.
J. W. Metsker and Son announce they will not sell any more seed corn after a thorough check shows much of the corn may not grow. They advise neighbors to test seed corn before planting and warn that all prior orders are canceled due to nonviable seed.
The M E church schedules a baccalaureate sermon for Sunday evening April 9 at 8 oclock with benediction. Alice Hogan School is listed in the notice.
Anna Bowsher born March 4 1907 died April 3 1911 in the home of Lawrence and Edna Bowsher. Funeral held at Rush Creek church with Rev Levi Woody officiating and interment nearby. The family thanks neighbors friends Rush Creek church members and those who provided song service.
Mrs Wm Harvey visited in Yeddo Tuesday Mrs Mark Inlow was visiting in Yeddo Wednesday. Rog McAlister in Danville on business Friday and Saturday. Miss Cora Wilmeth of Oakwood Ill guest of Miss Alice Howell and her mother. Nita Ewing bruised in fall at Kingman hotel last Saturday. Rog McAlister buys third interest in Kingman Telephone Co assumes management. Quarterly conference at UB church next Tuesday 2 PM with superintendent preaching in evening. Commencement gift book suggested. Pioneer Drug Store ad promotes literary needs. Prof Earl D Jones moved to Alamo Wilkinson property sold to M E Howrey. Old Reliable Coffee 25c lb at Alexander’s. Roy McAlister owner of Banner Slumber 49386 bred by M A McDonald West Lebanon Ind. Banner Slumber sired by Slumber 16092 dam Alice Noble. He foaled 1907 seen at Dr J T Redman’s barn. Mrs J M Wright and daughter Ruby visited from Veedersburg. Walter C Smith of Bowling Green guest of brother Chas F. First of week Rev Pliny Cox circulated subscription. piano bought for Friends church. Cable-Nelson piano 275 with 250 paid. purchased from L C King & Co. for church use.
