Sioux Falls Sept 13 Jacob Adrian a Turner County farmer near Silver Lake repelled a nighttime robbery attempt by three armed men after selling 400 in grain. Nearby Dolton and surrounding towns report repeated thefts of shoes clothing meat and even a fire at an outlying school building. Residents have armed themselves to drive the bandits from the area. Salem calls Democratic county convention for Sept 24, one week after Republicans and nine days after Prohibitionists.
Belle Fourche South Dakota September 13 News that the settlement of the meat strike brings gratification to the western district. Cattle owners race to reach market with stock some delaying to seek higher prices others forced to sell at any price. Best cattlemen say the range will clear up this fall.

St Louis Sept 15 The world’s fat stock show opens today at the lye stock grounds with 2400 entries in thirty two barns. Breeders from the United States Canada and England compete for diplomas and large prizes. Total awards amount to 105106 dollars and the stock’s value is put at several million dollars.
In La Junta on September 14 Robert Romaine the Topeka prisoner who confessed to involvement in the Independence explosion on June 6 was found. Authorities doubt the confession and seek corroboration of the claim despite the alleged presence in La Junta that day.
In a port confrontation, Collector Stratton refused a request to appoint a Japanese consul or civic judge to determine the seaworthiness of a ship. He stated the United States could handle the matter without foreign assistance, while diplomatic discussions continued with Japanese and American officials.
A wreck near Lawton west of Reno, Nevada, after disobeying orders on the Southern Pacific, left two men dead and several injured. Train No 5 and No 6, each heavy with Pullmans and day coaches, crashed while a Knights Templar party rode in the eastbound. Injured were numerous, including Mrs. John Swan and George Summerfield. all are reported to recover.
