Prairie fire devastates Kimball area burning hundreds of livestock
A massive prairie fire swept across Brule and adjacent counties near Kimball causing the loss of hundreds of cattle, horses, and sheep. Homes outbuildings and farms including the Wyant, Kemp, Gregg, Lindsay, and Mone properties were destroyed or severely damaged as firefighters battled the blaze driven by a strong southeast wind.

Miraculous escape amid western fire outruns the flames
A sweeping prairie blaze devastated ranches near Dodge, Lewis, and Crow Lake. Ben Flirt died in a cave near the Dodge ranch while Lin Locktwart stallion and seven standard cattle were burned. At the Lewis ranch horses were destroyed. A separate fire near Crow Lake destroyed 1500 sheep 400 lambs and all buildings. Town residents raced to save property as flames approached.
