Tragedy at Portman dam claims Miss Currie Bailey
On August 26 at the Portman dam on Seneca river Miss Currie Bailey eleven daughter of Mia Carrie Bailey drowned while swimming with Miss Estelle and Fannie Beck and Belton Driver of Anderson. They leaned on a small wire stretched along the bank when it broke and the three young women toppled into the river. Driver rescued Beck but Bailey’s body was recovered about an hour later. Bailey was to wed September 19 to FL H Walker of Elberton Georgia. Her mother runs a Portman Shoals boarding house and the death shocked many friends.
