Hughes Short in His Accounts Details Shortage
W W Hughes, for sixteen years treasurer of the Union Building and Loan Association, is found to have misappropriated several thousand dollars. An audit is underway to determine the exact amount after accountants arrive to avoid exaggerated reports. The local association, run for twenty years, has three series wound up. Nos 1 and 3 and 5 to 5 are reportedly unhurt, while Nos 4 and 6 through 8 face scrutiny. Hughes, who managed the funds and bore sole responsibility for the shortage, had been regarded as highly honest.
