Murdered aged woman near Columbia identified killers
Two young men allegedly murdered Mrs P W Bilisor in her Cayce home. They were captured twenty one miles north of Columbia by Conductor McCain and brought to Newberry jail. A mob confronted the arrest but police and guards protected the prisoners. Brack Toland and his brother claim a stranger negro planned and carried out the killing. The motive appears linked to robbery, with items split between the conspirators. The case raised alarms and a gubernatorial warning helped avert lynching.
