Chester Confederate Veterans Hold Big Reunion and Decorations
Under clear skies the South Carolina Confederate Veterans, led by the United States Navy Band from Charleston, marched to the pavilion for the annual Shoe Reunion. About 716 veterans reported by noon with more arriving afternoon and evening. The display of decorations and lights drew praise from visitors statewide. Keynote addresses by Ex-Mayor Caldwell and Dr. Leo Davis Lodge highlighted a day of memorial services, a country-style picnic, and a large veterans gathering at Chester. The meeting planned further sessions, officer elections, and a bid to secure state funding for future reunions with Spartanburg invited as the next host.
