Governor Ansel renounces his prior staff appointments and names Colonels W F Stevenson B A Morgan R 2 Hamer Jr D W Daniel and several aides de camp with ranks of colonel or lieutenant colonel. The lineup, plus Adjutant General J Boyd, appears under the Dick law, emphasizing quality over numbers among South Carolina’s leading citizens.
Kilis Bare of Ashe County North Carolina died after slipping from the Jumping Off Place on the Blue Ridge while driving a loaded wagon and team. The wagon and animals plunged several hundred feet down the precipice, tearing Bare and his team to fragments. The accident occurred near Wilkesboro on February 16.
Farmers in Qué community plow actively and prepare for spring planting. Visits by Miss Lulé Smith and other locals, plus new movers and hospitalities among Westminster New Hope and Seneca residents. A lively party hosted by Selma and West Marott drew seventy two attendees. efforts to learn who is ill and improved.
In Spartanburg on February 18 Mrs. M. A. Arant, 80, seeks her son turned husband T. F. Arant after his disappearance. She expresses distress over his absence and notes he has recently turned 17.
J P Mize suffered a broken leg after a runaway horse incident near Westminster depot. Dr. Walker treated the injury. the horse ran a mile before stopping. A new Methodist Episcopal church services began February 17. Local notices cover postmaster stamp book plans, union reorganization with officers named, and several residents’ visits, travel, or work. A quarterly conference for the Westminster charge is set for March 2 and 8.
In Lake City Fin Feb 16 burglars blew open the fate of the union passenger agent building with nitroglycerine and looted about 200 dollars. A sleeping man was tied and gagged to stop alarm. In Hamilton Marion County Ala a vault in the county treasurer’s office was blown open and looted of four to eight thousand dollars. A reward of 500 dollars is offered for the arrest of the robbers. Posses scour the region.

Appointees include W J Murray of Columbia C K Henderson of Aiken W Wells Simpson of Woodruff Nelson Poe of Greenville and John McSwoon of Timmonsville Two appointees N C Poe and W W Simpson refuse acceptance prompting possible reappointments The appointees are described as prominent business figures without political ties and likely total abstainers.
A Monday blaze at Pendleton freight depot caused about 5000 in losses. Eighty seven bales of cotton on the platform burned, while the depot contents remained undamaged. Fifty bales were bound for Lenox Cotton Mills, twelve for Ore Cotton Mills, and twenty five for a Norfolk consignor. Rail carrier held liable for losses.
Governor Martin F Anauhag issues a proclamation nullifying the local dispensary act from February 16 1907. All dia pensera in charge must close their dispensaries and remain closed until new boards are appointed and stock and arrangements are made with the board of commissioners to wind up state dispensary affairs. The board will issue orders for reopening.
