Train burns on trestle near Augusta killing crew
A passenger train No 2 on the Spartanburg division of the Charleston and Western Carolina Railroad ran into a burning trestle near Woodlawn, Augusta. Engineer Hank Taylor and Fireman Simon Dunbar perished, sixteen passengers lightly hurt. Conductor W A Verdery and others evacuated. Baggagemaster George Box and Mall Clerk Bloom were injured. Box narrowly escaped. The wreck tore the train apart and sparked a blaze across the wreckage.
