Keota Homesteader Adds 160 Acres to Claim
Charles E. Friend, a long time homesteader near Keota, recently filed an additional homestead entry for 160 acres adjoining his Keota farm. His first homestead began in 1870 about 40 miles southwest of Lincoln, Nebraska, with patent issued in 1874. He later secured adjoining railroad land and helped plat part of it for the town of Friend. Six years ago he made a final proof on a south Keota quarter and, after desert entry on the adjoining quarter, plans to convert it under the new law for additional entry after proof on the original.
