Community Notes Record Spring Moves and Engagement News

Misses Eva and Edith Boyer return from Greeley with Ruth Boyer attending Teachers College commencement. Hazel J. Smillie to wed Lee F. Pattie May 24 Eaton Denver home after June 15. Local visits and travels include band entertainment at Buckingham and trips to Pawnee Buttes. Several residents announce moves and job changes in Keota while teachers and students continue schooling in nearby towns.

Death of Mrs. Milton Conley Passes at Home

Mrs. Milton Conley died at the family home six miles south of Keota on Monday June 4 1917 after an illness starting in January. Born in Mills County Iowa in 1859 she married January 13 1881. Funeral by Rev Beryl McKowan was held at the home with interment in Keota cemetery. Survived by husband and children William Conley Crawford Nebraska Mrs Chris Zortman and Mrs Charles Linney of New Raymer Colorado Mrs Olin Keasling Mrs Thomas Bucher Edward Raymond and Maggie Conley of Keota.

Mrs George Jobbins and children plan a several week stay at Goodrich. Mr H H Cronk visited family at Spring Hill Ranch after arriving from Omaha. Miss Goldie Fletcher of Buckingham stays with Walter Quackenbush. Dr D G Olson and family were guests of J E Pegg. W E Burkholder visited Cheyenne last weekend. Seventy-Eight Registered at Keota for Draft

Seventy eight men aged 21 to 31 registered in Keota precinct Tuesday under the selective draft law. Avalo precinct reports seventy registrations by 2 p m. Keota registrars were W R Stewart and D E Byrne, Avalo workers J M Biggs and P M Brillhart. Ray Butler, returning from Buckingham to Keota, faced a muddy road and reached the registry after ten p m with his blue card.

Drowning of Jesse I. Zittle Near Fort Morgan

A Keota resident Jesse I. Zittle drowned after his horse spooked while crossing the swollen Platte River to an island to move cattle. Witnesses say his body did not surface. Zittle, longtime Keota resident, owned a farm south of town and was a member of the Keota Odd Fellows lodge.

Margret Frink Graduates From Englewood High School

Margaret Frink daughter of Mr and Mrs H S Frink residing at 154 E Cornell Englewood Colo graduates from Englewood High School on Thursday evening June 7 1917 She attended Keota school was the sole eighth grade pupil in 1912-13 Her family moved to Denver for better educational opportunities She earned praise from instructors gained popularity on campus and served on the school newspaper staff Pathagorian Literary Society and Pathagorian girls quartette She plans vocal and piano study in Denver after a summer visit to Pueblo Her class motto Excelsior will guide her life

Jobbins Oline wedding in Keota and Carpenter

Miss Anna Jobbins formerly of Keota wed Mr. Edward Oline at the Beagdent home in Carpenter Wyoming. They returned to Keota for a reception and plan to reside at the groom's homestead near Carpenter after July 15.

Second Weld County Grange Picnic Set for July 10

The second annual Weld County Grange picnic will be held at Keota on Tuesday July 10 with State Master John Morris and another national figure as speakers. A morning sports program precedes basket dinner and a literary program. Keota Grange initiates Mr and Mrs C M Haney and Guy Burgess.
