Secretary praises sugar beet as homegrown solution
The secretary argues the U S should grow its own sugar beets to end importing sugar. He recalls early efforts at Iowa State College, notes beet crops improved milk production, and cites 595 455 tons of beet sugar worth 65 505 000 with farmers earning 26 350 000 plus byproducts valued at over 3 683 108 and molasses 1 211 056, totaling about 70 000 000.
