A carload of registered Pearl potatoes from Briggsdale growers D H Dailey and others is being sold via the Farmers' Cooperative Co in Greeley. The potatoes come from last year's seed movement and are praised for quality and promising enterprise growth.
Pawnee Lodge No. 137 I O O F reports rising attendance with all officers present for the third time this quarter. Ray Butler was reinstated as candidate, four new members A D Swearingen Henry Freitag C F Oram and B E Ellsworth approved for initiatory degree on April 6 with Lynn A Knipp named drill captain guiding improving team work.
After a Monday show about fifty young folks followed the Shetwells to the Keota Hotel and F M Hall where the newlyweds were presented with kitchen utensils. The pair then enjoyed oranges and cigars before returning home. Mr and Mrs John Wiley and daughter came back to their Keota area home from St Elmo Missouri after a year away. Keota hosts a Friday debate between Grover and Keota on a proposal for a National Board of Arbitration with compulsory powers to settle industrial disputes. Grover won affirmative by two to one. judges included D W Schoonover Kenyon Harkins and Maude Gabriel. Raymer also debated Friday night and won against Buckingham two to one. Grover and Raymer will face off to determine the overall winner.
Card of thanks expresses gratitude to neighbors and the Keola Ladies Aid Society O10 F Lodge for ministration and flowers during illness and death of a wife mother and sister. Twelve ladies attended the M E Ladies Aid meeting with Mrs D W Schoonover present. officers elected include Mrs H A Lenhard president Mrs J J Wertz vice president Mrs C F Oram secretary and Mrs E W Cox treasurer. About forty five friends and neighbors gathered at the A D List home Monday evening for a farewell surprise party for Mrs Nordell. The community sends best wishes as she relocates with relatives.
The Carpenter Cattle Company announces a second public auction of Bates Shorthorn cattle to be held at Greeley on Tuesday April 12. Bates Shorthorns were developed by Thomas Bates of Kirklevington England in the early 19th century. The master breeder focused on excellent conformation and strong milking qualities, with cattle from this line fetching high prices and becoming rare in America after the New York Mills sale and subsequent 1890s panic.
D W Schoonover traveled to Logan yesterday and planned a brief visit lasting until today with his son George and wife accompanying him.
