McLellan Wins Barr-Gwin Best Drivers Contest
L P McLellan Jr of Lexington R F C won the Barr-Gwin Co sponsored Best Drivers Contest with an average of 44.4 miles per gallon. Second and third went to Mrs Clem Ludbeck and Matilda McLellan with 44.2 and 42 mpg. Sixty drivers competed with an overall average of 32.6 mpg.
Local Union Services Begin Sunday Night Across Summer
Regular union services start Sunday night July 3 at 8 o clock in the open alcove between the Methodist church and Educational building. Rev Judson Chastain of the Baptist church will preach the first service. Everyone is urged to attend each Sunday night at the same location. Holmes County Seeks Cold Storage Plant With WPA Aid
County Agent T. M. Williams and H. P. Watson traveled to Jackson to file for WPA funds to build a Holmes county cold storage plant. Plans call for a $33,000 facility with individual lockers for renters and meat handling charges to cover expenses. Architects Overstreet and Town draw up plans as Williams inspects similar plants in Indianola and Grenada for ideas.

Labor WPA Registering Workers for Rural Road Projects
Mrs Anne Parker a social worker with the WPA in Greenwood spent Tuesday registering labor for WPA road projects. Applicants seek rural road work for Beats 1 2 and 3 with about 160 men to be employed, cases to be reopened for state reported employment later. Country Club Plans Big Fourth of July Celebration
Country Club members map an all day Fourth of July with morning tennis swimming contests golf in the afternoon and ping pong finals at 6 30 to 7 30. A 25 cent barbecue follows and a script dance 1 25 per couple will run from 10 p m. Committees led by Kier Patterson and Stephenson organize sports entertainment and the big dance.
