Holmes County to Apply for First Farm To Market Road
Holmes County Board of Supervisors seeks approval for a 7 mile Farm To Market road from Owens Wells to near Bowling Green connecting with Highway 12 between Lexington and Durant. Project funded under Senate Bill 169 with $150,000 state funds plus federal grants and a later $760,000 for 1940 41. A preliminary route survey and work order will follow the bill's authorization, per Senator Watson.

Williams was re elected alderman for Ward 1 in the city primary held Tuesday June 11 defeating C JM McDaniel by 31 to 21. The nomination secures his fifth term. Only these two ran on the city ticket as all other officers were elected without opposition. Election was run by managers Kenna Wallace and Hammett with clerks Hooker Gilliland and Nabors as peace officer.

Three Test Wells Still Seeking Oil in Holmes County
Holmes county oil activity narrows after recent tests and abandonment of dry holes. Humphrey’s No. 1 near Ebenezer drills at 1523 feet in sandy shale while Eakin No. 1 near Tolarville nears 6000 feet in sticky shale. Gwin No. 1 near Keirn reaches 4600 feet amid plans to reach 6000 feet. Additional tests are planned between Bertha Russell and P. A. Jones wells at Howard, with further wells anticipated by W. L.
