Swinney Hardware promotes Nesco ROLO oil stoves with interchangeable right and left ovens, white and black porcelain enamel, nickel plated frame, and built in thermometer. The ad claims low kerosene use, eight days cooking on less than 3 cents a day, and highlights other up to date hardware items plus a promise of future news and customer satisfaction.
Holmes county supervisors discussed granting a franchise to a new company formed in Durant to construct and operate natural gas pipelines. The venture aims to supply the city and surrounding areas with gas, with a stated value around 50 000 dollars and potential expansion to other Holmes County towns. The plan highlights expected heat and cooking benefits and anticipates broader adoption.
Zone meeting of the Woman's Missionary Society held in the Methodist church auditorium Monday afternoon with Mrs. M. E. Scott presiding. Delegates from Durant Pickens Lexington and others attended. program featured devotional by Mrs J R Hoover and papers and musical numbers. Committee formed to arrange future banner prize and supply details.
Lexington will add a modern all steel high speed gin plant operated by electric power on Swinney’s fair ground property east of the city. The plant will process both short and staple cotton, turn out a bale every 15 minutes, and include weighing, storage, and railroad shipping facilities with 100 horsepower direct motor drive. Construction progresses with concrete foundation completed and equipment arriving for a 60 day generation of output.
The Lexington Grammar School grounds will get a graveled driveway to aid rural pupils and school trucks. The high school will add drainage and other improvements around the new structure. City aldermen plan extensive street work, including graving Woodlawn avenue near the Community hospital to reduce dust and improve traffic flow with new signs and warnings.
George S. Beall of the Lexington Gin and Trading Co. advances a plan for a Mississippi feed mill with top engineers from Memphis and Owensboro. He surveys existing plants to design a unit blending homegrown foods, balancing feeding, mixing and delivering to cut farm costs and use farm surpluses to meet shortages.
The Brotherhood Bible Class meeting on June 9 saw the Ford contingent outnumber Chevrolets by six. A quartet performed a quarter selection and a $23.16 offering was raised for a needy family near Lexington. Captain Reggie Williams and Captor of the Fords keep the contest tight as cars and dust swirl toward the meeting place.
Experts estimate Holmes county spends over a half million dollars annually on food for livestock. A new standard feed mill is planned to stay in county use and boost purchasing power for local farmers. Mr Beall says further announcements will follow about the mill’s erection as the finest in the state.
