Lake Wallace Opens With Big Weekend Crowd
Lake Wallace near Tehula welcomed a large crowd for its season opening on Sunday. Benches are being added to the picnic grounds and the area expanded. Lexington COC camp staff will provide senior lifeguards to teach swimming and first aid, with training from Camp Beauregard. New Mississippi Gin Plant Begins Construction This Week

Herrman Named Pres Twenty-Four Diplomas Granted
The Lexington High School commencement on Beal athletic field Monday night honored twenty four graduates who received diplomas. Officers for the Jr Chamber of Commerce were named including Eugene Herrman as president and Eo T. Neilson as first vice president. Prizes for essays and history were awarded to several students, with Martha Ann Dyer and Patsy Kier among top recipients. Roland Sheehas won a chemistry state exam and the class celebrated with performances by Miss Myrtis Haynie and Miss Anne Grimes.

Oneal White, a professional golfer, arrived last Friday to take duties at the Lexington Country Club in Memphis. He will base at the club house and start organizing classes this week. Stockman to Attend Friday’s Auction At Lexington
Three prominent stockmen from Ben ionii and Benton interviewed W F Fisher of Lexington Commission Co. One plans to bring seven Angus and white faced steers, another 125 Hereford cows and heifers, and a third about 80 white faced and Red Poll cows and heifers to Friday’s sale. Fisher also reported a 1600 bushel corn sale for Holmes County farmers at a good price. The local firm aids Lexington and Holmes County with its efforts, earning praise for money brought in.

The Negroes Break Jail Here Wednesday
Three black prisoners escaped the county jail around midday Wednesday by breaking through the ceiling. Sheriff W. L. Ellis launched an immediate manhunt but could not locate the fugitives.

Holmes Crops Look Unusually Promising
A tour of Holmes county shows strong crop stands across all crops with few gaps in rows. Cooler nights and dry weather slowed growth but soil condition and winter freeze prep support good yields. Farmers note greater cotton control program impact this year with about eighty-five percent of base cotton acres signed for in 1936. WPA Playground to Open in Lexington Monday
