I. D Killebrew of Ebenezer reports on the WPA road project extending from Ebenezer to Richland. Seventeen men are on site with hauling from Richland and nearby areas. Grubbing is nearly finished as crews prepare a new route offering a better detour for residents.
Six youths were arraigned in city court on petit larceny after an incident near the square. Officers noted several merchandise items taken, with a clerk recognizing the group. Willie Sample and Willie E. Gibson were each sentenced 30 for alleged theft of a sweater at a local store. Remaining defendants named include James Redmond Newt Montgomery Percy mery and others.
The Advertiser will pause during the week starting Monday December 23 and publish only the legal paper. In a festive note the paper thanks readers for their support and wishes a merry Christmas to all.
Turner T. S. Turner of Issaquena county arrived this week to assume duties as assistant county agent replacing A. R. Ruby who moved to Yazoo. He started work Monday and is getting familiar with local activities. He has rooms at the home of Mr and Mrs H K Ginn and expects his wife to join him February 1.
A special meeting of the Board of Supervisors, called by president V Rein hard, is set for Monday December 20 to consider accounts against the county and road districts and any other business that may come before the board.
Holidays for the county schools were announced by Supt. P. H. Williams. Schools will dismiss Friday December 20 and resume Monday December 30, allowing a ten day Yuletide holiday for teachers and pupils.
The Junior Chamber of Commerce sponsors a large Christmas ball Friday night December 20 at the high school. The event features Stephenson and his orchestra with special numbers and three city dancers Misses Nancy Sullivan Pauline Holder and Patsy Kier. The gym will glow in Yuletide colors with a mistletoe lead out as a highlight.

Thieves struck twice over the weekend while residents attended services. At the Chastains home an unlocked front door allowed entry. only 75 cents and scattered matches were missing. Kenna residence suffered a similar break in via a screened window with 80 cents and a pair of men’s shoes taken.
W L Huff and P S Milton of the Coxbury faculty were in Lexington Monday handling business matters and school affairs.
The Lexington Rotary Club supervised Monday as Dr. T. Ruff led erecting the holly tree in the courtyard. Ed die Malloy and helpers decorated the tree with colored lights near the usual spot, with Frank Shelton hauling it to Lexington. The annual display, sponsored by the Junior Chamber of Commerce, draws praise from residents.
The Peoples Bank of Durant mails dividend checks to stockholders after a board meeting ordered a 6 percent cash dividend and $6000 placed in earned surplus. The bank reports a pleasing side showing and cites strong business to depositors.
Sam J. Foose, Tehula business leader, in Lexington arranging advertising for a delta city trade event. Nine cash prizes worth $100 await on Christmas Eve at 4 o clock with tickets issued for each 60 cent purchase. Merchants backing the event include Tchula Hardware, Rotchild's Store, Schura Store, Jitney Jungle, Maud Rayner's Store, Irving's Store, and Campbell's Service Station.
R King a Durant attorney has been appointed by the WPA state office as supervisor of all WPA operations in Holmes County He will handle salary disbursements wages and supplies as well as local work assignments from his Durant office He is a veteran leader of Senator Bilbo having managed his forces in three counties during the 1934 Senate race Mrs Alice Fryer Hall of Lexington assists without compensation The county will have few WPA jobs due to lack of appropriations and administrative positions are filled The WPA aims to employ relief rolls members with limited chances for those not on relief rolls
