Lexington mayor Norman Weathersby appeals to residents amid a national emergency and war with Japan. He calls the struggle a World War determining liberty and fortune, urges daily flag display, swift citizen cooperation with officials, and 100 percent commitment to war effort.
Authorities announce Christmas holidays for schools with the break beginning at close of classes Friday.
A 1941 telegram to Holmes County Red Cross Chapter demands a $2500 quota with 15 percent for local relief. It notes a nationwide campaign pending a Presidential proclamation to support a $50 million goal and urges immediate action reporting back on progress.
The Lexington Advertiser is cited by Lt. W. S. Travis as leading Mississippi in Navy recruiting via returned coupons. A letter from the Navy Recruiting Station New Orleans commends the paper for 64 leads and urges continued support for personnel needs during wartime.
Holmes county reports a successful Red Cross roll call reaching 1506 members with 6 to spare. Bre[dWoo Surmey of 1600 members led the drive with 50 percent to be sent to Washington and the rest kept locally. Community reports and honors follow with Hines Tehula at 100 percent and donations noted.
At a regular meeting of Lexington Lodge No. 24 held Monday night officers for the coming year were elected. M. E. Holloman was chosen W M H F Flowers was named S W N L Walker J W W Watson was elected Treasurer.

Bishop Wm Mercer Green will preach at Saint Mary's Episcopal Church this Sunday December 14 at 11:00 A M. Special music includes the offertory duet God Is Love by Mrs J M McRae and Mrs Edwin White. An invitation extends to friends of all denominations to attend with the Eastern State committee planning a joint installation of officers.
Holmes County Election Commission chair Mrs. Adam J. Henrich announced a special election for Supervisor's District No. 3 on January 6 1942 to fill the vacancy from Constable Grady Edwards resignation. Candidates should contact Mrs. Henrich promptly to participate.
