Washington U P The Merchant Marine Committee hearing on wartime shipbuilding profits erupted into a heated clash as Rep Alvin F Weichel demanded Maritime Commission witnesses testify first and challenged the basis of Kaisers questioning. Kaiser defended his operations noting a net loss in one major venture and denied excessive fees while denying shielding anyone.
Twenty four men convicted of conspiring to violate price controls in the purchase and sale of three million dollars worth of used cars were sentenced to prison terms up to two years with fines totaling one hundred thousand dollars. A 15 year old boy dubbed Gazelle Boy was chased for two hours by Prince Fawaz El Shaalaf and companions after being sighted among gazelles in the Transjordan desert.
