With only three days of summer left, Kenosha and statewide conditions cooled. Sewage plant readings showed 64 at noon, down from yesterday's 90 high. Nash plant at 68 and downtown at 66. A pollen count of 34 aided a fair, cool night forecast, then increasing clouds and warmer highs of 78 to 85 tomorrow.
City council held a public hearing on selling bonds for sewers street improvements and schools then approved initial resolutions. A key debate focused on a $3500 survey by a Chicago firm to decide whether an overpass or underpass is needed on 30th Ave near the ED tracks. Council deferred action awaiting Uptown parking facility input.
Miss Dorothy Middleton and Miss Sarah Perkins, freed American missionaries, phoned Bristol relatives from Hong Kong while en route to California. Middleton praised God and said she felt normal and happy after years as prisoners. Perkins, 63, spoke of her good health and faith. They were released after deportation procedures and crossed into British territory on the freedom line with U S officials nearby.

Milo Sedlacek, mayor of Cedar Rapids in Iowa, collapsed and died of a heart attack on Monday while attending a downtown hotel meeting. The death marks a sudden loss for the city leadership and local government.
Hurricane Ione moved well offshore from Norfolk Virginia and curved eastward over the Atlantic. North Carolina suffered five fatalities and major crop and property losses while Virginia escaped heavy damage.
Police comb a 66 block area after the 3 day old son of Dr. and Mrs. Sanford Marcus was abducted from a glass nursery at Mt. Zion hospital in San Francisco. The baby, Robert J. Marcus, was taken by a white woman with blonde hair. nurse Lettie Clement and supervisor Eleanor Lorenz identified a woman leaving with a baby. Inspector George Dyer described her as a clean skinned, tall woman in her 30s. A radio plea urged the return of the child to avoid further heartbreak for the Marcus family.
Edward Hupf, 28, died at Laona hospital after his car left Highway 32 near Wabeno Sunday night and overturned. The accident occurred near the highway with Hupf sustaining fatal injuries.
Woolworths in Kenosha announces tearing down the 1928 building at 6th Ave and 57th St starting Jan 1 1956 to replace with a modern two story store featuring an escalator see through frontage and expanded luncheonette. Business will suspend for six to eight months during construction with self service on reopening.
Delegates gathered as the United States pushed to block any Soviet bid to seat Communist China. Acting president J M H A Luns opened the session and U S chief delegate Henry Cabot Lodge Jr. voiced confidence of enough votes to keep Red China out, aiming to shelve the issue for 1955. Soviet Foreign Minister Molotov, visiting for the first time since 1946, was expected to renew the bid.
Gordon Samuel Samuelsen, 35, of Madison, is appointed clerk of the Wisconsin Supreme Court to succeed Arthur A. McLeod who retires Oct 15 after 40 years of service. Samuelsen, a Marquette University Law School graduate (1948), has served as assistant attorney general since 1949.
Kenosha Teachers Union Local 557 voted unanimously to strike if the executive board deems it necessary after deadlocked wage talks with the Kenosha Board of Education. The Wisconsin Federation of Teachers backs the union. KEA terminates negotiations with the school board.
Rep. John Byrnes reports that Russia’s smiling diplomacy is swaying governments friendly to the United States. Returning from Helsinki as a delegate to the Interparliamentary Union, he notes many Western bloc delegates appear ready to accept Moscow’s approach without questioning it.
Juan D. Peron boarded a Paraguayan gunboat in Buenos Aires amid revolt turmoil and rebel demand to intercept the ship. Reports say Peron may have fled toward Uruguay, while Paraguay’s ambassador confirmed the boat carried him and offered protection. A four man junta led by Gen. Molin formed as discussions with rebels began.
Two men robbed the Clark gas station on Hy 41 near the state line last night at about 3 am. They tied the attendant Harold Meeker to a back room, stole $200 in cash, a wristwatch, and a change pouch. They fled after detaining him with a small blue automatic pistol.
Herbert A. Broehm a 23 year old Appleton city fireman died when his car rolled over on Highway 41 just north of Kaukauna. The incident occurred early today and the vehicle pinned him beneath it.
In Sumner Mississippi the state summoned 13 witnesses in the trial of two white men charged with the murder of a Chicago Negro youth said to have insulted a white woman. Among the witnesses was Mamie Bradley Emmitt Till's mother. In Berlin East Germany and the Soviet Union signed a treaty granting sovereignty to East Germany. In Bonn Chancellor Adenauer announced West Germany will raise a 12 division army by January 1 1959 to be trained and equipped.
Heavyweight champion Rocky Marciano weighed 188 pounds and challenger Archie Moore 188 even for their 15 round Yankee Stadium title fight. The bout was postponed until Wednesday night due to threatening weather.
A Milwaukee boy regained his gold braided yacht cap after Chicago detective John Allman, acting on a five page letter from the boy's mother, tracked a Division Street restaurant known for Polish food and found the cap on a rack at Unitas restaurant. He mailed it home at his own expense.
Albert Anastasia, long linked to the Murder Inc. regime, retained U S citizenship after the 3rd Circuit Court of Appeals reversed a lower court ruling. The court held he did not commit fraud in obtaining citizenship, which had been revoked by Judge William F. Smith in Newark in April 1954.
