George T. Dean Dies Longtime Bassett Figure in County Politics
George T. Dean 67 of Bassett and former 14 year county board member died at Burlington hospital after a lingering illness. Born in England in 1882 he came to America in 1885 settling in Wilmot. He ran a Bassett hardware store from 1907 to 1946 and held posts as Wilmot High School treasurer Randall township chairman and Bassett school treasurer. Surviving are his widow Mae Karcher two daughters Mrs. Reynolds and Mrs. Ende a Milwaukee brother Charles and five sisters with three grandchildren. A brother preceded him in death.

Widow 76 shoots intruder at Wisconsin Rapids farm
A 76 year old widow on a Wisconsin Rapids area farm shot a man who tried to enter her home between 2 and 3 am. Edward Konieski 30 of Route 1 Wisconsin Rapids was found nearby with a .38 caliber neck wound and was in fair condition at Riverview hospital. The shooter, Mrs. Louise Eberius, said the man had circled the house knocked on windows and doors then broke a screen door. Police found the intruder’s car later a short distance from the home.
