Police reinforce as squatters seize a temperance hotel near Regent's Park and rally supporters. Communists, led by Harry Pollitt, plan to address Leicester Square as sympathizers fear further takeovers and authorities starve out supplies to the sites.
United Nations General Assembly session postponed to Oct 23 after 37 of 51 members approve. Secretary-General Trygve Lie notes no opposition at noon with four nations pressing delay for staffing and scheduling reasons linked to the Paris peace conference.
The Greek government refused to punish two pilots who conducted a search for a Greek plane shot down by Yugoslav fire. A Yugoslav protest demanded punishment for flying over Yugoslav territory, but Greece said the search complied with international law.

St. Paul, Minn. Build ing Inspector Elmer R. Hetting was injured when he opened a basement door and stepped into the basement with no steps, fracturing his leg. He was recovering today.
The badly decomposed body found in Lake Michigan off Forty third street is identified as Ernest W. Evans fifty four of Chicago. Coroner James A. Crossin announced the identification based on widow Helen Evans and a dentist in Chicago. Evans had vanished after threatening suicide on February 8 1946 and is believed to have killed himself. The body was towed to Kenosha Harbor and later exhumed for dental confirmation.
Byron Leonard McGraw a 40 year old Detroit CPA died after an auto driven by Earl Rowlands left the curve on Springbrook road and struck a large oak tree. Rowlands survived with injuries and was in fair condition at Kenosha hospital. McGraw had come to Kenosha from Detroit for vacation. his body held pending word from family.
John R. Steelman assumed oversight of the maritime wage dispute as the White House weighed options after the Wage Stabilization Board rejected a pay rise for AFL Seamen above 1750 a month. The move aims to coordinate agency actions amid shipyard walkouts and a potential policy clash with the Maritime Commission.
Edward Hartung 25 of Milwaukee died from a skull fracture after his car hit Van Hise Rock on Highway 136 near Ableman. The accident occurred Labor Day with Hartung admitted to St. Marys Ringing hospital where he died from his injuries.
The Associated Press reports killing frost across northern Wisconsin as Topcoats come out of storage and temperatures plunge. Land o Lakes hits 23 degrees, with frost in Wausau and Park Falls and lows around 34 to 45 statewide. Farmers rush to harvest remaining crops as a slight warm trend is seen tonight into tomorrow.
Police Chief John T. Sullivan urged motorists to exercise care and courtesy to curb speeding reckless driving and improper parking. He stressed no department wide crackdown is planned despite rising arrests and said education and proper street marking remain key before any arrests occur.
