Plane fires and gunfire injure two in Madison crash
An Air Force Mustang from Truax Field was hit by gunfire as it returned to base. Capt. William Brownell bailed out before the plane crashed in flames, and about 900 rounds of .50 caliber fire sprayed the East Side, injuring two and damaging homes, a warehouse, and a car.
