An Eastern Airlines DC 3 crashed on a plantation near Pecan Grove, 14 miles east of Florence, killing 22 aboard en route from Miami to New York. Captain J O King radioed trouble before attempting an emergency landing at Florence Army Air Base. Fire and wreckage were scattered. searchers located bodies as weather remained clear.

Langer Wins Distinguished Flying Cross for Daring Belgium Landing
1st Lt. Warren Langer son of Mr and Mrs George N Langer 3825 Sixth Avenue Kenosha received the Distinguished Flying Cross for a March 23 mission in which his Marauder belly landed in Belgium after wheels locked and three crew injured one killed.
