Labor Day traffic mostly safe in Kenosha County
Over the three day holiday 11 people were hurt on roads outside the city and five in the city. Sheriff James Marshall noted heavy traffic with 30 000 cars passing through the county. Eight drivers were arrested for traffic violations. multiple specific injuries and incidents were reported including a fatal car out of control near Silver Lake and several collisions along Hy 41 and County Trunk I.

Niederprim, Kenosha official, dies after brief illness
John C. Niederprim, 69, former county clerk from 1932 to 1948 and long time Kenosha resident, died at St Catherine's hospital after a short illness. He lived at 510 40th St and was born July 18, 1887. He married Margaret Langer Degen in 1937 and had a step son J L Degen. He served on the county board, worked for J C Pennefeather Co, and was a 50 year member of the Catholic Order of Foresters. He is survived by a widow, step son, a brother Raymond, sisters Grace Hirsch and Frances Frerichs, and other relatives. He was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

Blues-Singing Ex-GI Charged With Murder
Freeman Reese, 36, a former GI known as Jill Dalgarde and Billy the Crooner, is charged in Burton-on-Trent with a 10 year old English police officer murder. He was arrested on the Isle of Man after a worldwide manhunt and held in jail. Reese, born in Henderson Louisiana and later Texas, had lived as a nightlife figure in Little Harlem near Liverpool.

National Guardsmen moved into Oliver Springs Tennessee with 80 jeeps and two tanks to quell a night of armed mob rule sparked by rumors of school integration. A Negro man fired at a crowd wounding a white man named Jack Payne. shots were exchanged with troopers, and two dynamite charges were set off. The town of about 1,000 near Clinton and Knoxville faced extensive racial tension as guards from Clinton were called in after unrest surrounding school integration.
